Serge & Robert Cornelissen
Cornelissen has over 20 years of experience in the design of architectural lighting products. He started his carreer as an architect graduate. Serge Cornelissen’s approach to product design has continued to demonstrate a particular love for architecture that is visible in the sense of proportion and detail of every design.
His architectural background has led to a thorough understanding of the particular role of lighting solutions in their architectural contexts, thus enhancing the chances of a product’s success on the market.
The intent of each new design project is to combine aesthetic and technical and economic constraints into a coherent concept with a clear mission to fulfil a specific lighting need. As these constraints are different every time, each new design has to start from scratch, with a single line on a white sheet of paper. For that reason, the designs by Serge Cornelissen are not characterized by its own recognizable style or a designer’s signature justifying certain aesthetic choices. Instead, the studio’s philosophy is that the field of architectural lighting is just as diverse as architecture itself.
Serge Cornelissen designs are regularly awarded at international design awards.
The Serge Cornelissen design office began its activities in 1993. It was founded by Serge Cornelissen (1970) who graduated in architecture in 1993 from the Sint Lucas Institute in Ghent Belgium.
Serge Cornelissen is assisted by Robert Cornelissen (1946), who has designed lighting fixtures since 1982 for WEVER & DUCRÉ (Belgium) and MODULAR LIGHTING INSTRUMENTS (Belgium). The studio, specialized exclusively in the design of architectural lighting fixtures and systems, starting with designs for MODULAR INTERNATIONAL (USA) and for several other Belgian lighting companies including DELTA LIGHT (Belgium).
