Overview
Notting Hill Townhouse required a lighting design approach that balanced the character of a Victorian villa with the needs of a fully rebuilt contemporary family home. With only the upper front façade retained and the rest of the property carefully reimagined, the lighting scheme was developed to bring warmth, clarity and atmosphere to the new architecture while maintaining a sense of softness and elegance suited to the original building.
The design uses layered lighting throughout the house, combining discreet architectural fittings, decorative lighting and concealed LED details to support both everyday living and evening ambience. Within the newly created basement, the lighting plays an important role in adding depth and comfort, helping the lower-level spaces feel inviting rather than enclosed. Across the main living areas, lighting is used to highlight joinery, finishes, artwork and key architectural details, creating a refined but approachable atmosphere.
The large garden and guest house offered the opportunity to extend the lighting design beyond the main home. Soft external lighting helps connect the house, garden and guest accommodation, adding safety, depth and a welcoming glow after dark. The result is a carefully considered lighting scheme that supports the scale of the rebuilt property while making each space feel calm, elegant and beautifully connected.
